What does closing the day actually do?
It ends a shift, totals what was taken on it, and compares that with the cash you counted. Anything after belongs to the next shift.
Close it at handover, not at midnight — the point is to tie money to the person who took it.
The difference is recorded as it is
If the counted cash and the system total disagree, the difference is stored. Hiding a short drawer helps nobody: a pattern across weeks is the only way anyone ever finds the cause.
