What does adding a recipe to a dish actually do?
It says what one plate uses. Sell the dish and the ingredients come off stock — which is what makes the cost of goods on your Profit & Loss mean anything.
Give a dish a recipe — flour, chicken, spices — and every plate sold deducts those, not the dish itself.
Why bother
Without recipes, the Profit & Loss knows what you sold but not what it cost you to make. With them, food cost is a number you can act on rather than a guess at the end of the month.
When not to
An item with no recipe is deducted as itself, which is exactly right for a bottle of Coke and exactly wrong for a plate of momo.
