The POS says an item is out of stock but we have plenty

That item tracks inventory and its count has run to zero. Either stock it in properly, or mark it "always available" if it is something nobody counts.

Two honest choices, and the wrong one is trying to do both.

Stock it in

Record the purchase so the count matches the shelf. Right for anything you genuinely want to track โ€” bottled drinks, gas cylinders, laundry supplies.

Or mark it always available

On the item, untick track inventory. Right for what nobody counts: tea, water from a jug, a dish whose ingredients are never weighed.

A hotel that tracks nothing is fine. A hotel that tracks half-heartedly gets stock alerts it learns to ignore, which is worse than no alerts at all.
